Cumbria 4x4 Response

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £309 to Cumbria 4x4 Response for a Hytera HP565 digital handheld radio.

Cumbria 4x4 Response is a volunteer charity that provides vital logistical support to the Emergency Services, NHS, Local Authorities and other charities during adverse weather and emergency situations. Their trained volunteers use four-wheel drive vehicles to reach locations that would otherwise be inaccessible.

The team regularly assists with transporting district nurses through snow and floods, taking doctors to hospitals, delivering essential supplies to isolated communities and helping local authorities establish emergency shelters during severe weather.

The grant funded a digital handheld radio, providing a reliable means of communication for volunteers operating in remote rural areas where mobile phone coverage is limited or unavailable.

Reliable communications are essential when coordinating emergency responses, ensuring volunteers can remain in contact with each other and with control teams while carrying out important work in challenging conditions.

The new radio has strengthened the charity’s ability to respond safely and effectively, helping ensure support reaches vulnerable people when they need it most.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
