Dig In

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £450 to Dig In for branded uniforms for volunteers and beneficiaries.

Based in Preston, Dig In is a local charity supporting serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces who are experiencing mental health and other service-related challenges, including anxiety, depression, PTSD and difficulties adjusting to civilian life.

The charity provides a safe and welcoming environment where people can access peer support from a team made up entirely of members of the military community. Shared lived experience helps build trust, reduce isolation and give beneficiaries the opportunity to spend time with people who understand some of the challenges they may be facing.

Activities include woodworking, horticulture and community projects, helping participants develop practical skills, confidence, routine and a renewed sense of purpose. Dig In also provides a drop-in space for informal support, friendship and signposting to other services.

The 3R grant contributed towards branded uniforms for staff, volunteers and beneficiaries. Everyone taking part is provided with uniform, removing any financial barrier and ensuring nobody has to risk damaging their own clothing during practical activities.

For people from a military background, the shared uniform also has particular significance, helping recreate that familiar sense of belonging, identity and being part of a team. It also makes Dig In clearly recognisable when its members are working in the community or attending events.

The uniforms were sourced from a trusted local supplier, so the grant has also helped support another local business.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
