Morecambe Prom parkrun

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £384 to Morecambe Prom parkrun for nine traffic cones with retractable barrier toppers.

Morecambe Prom Parkrun is a free, weekly 5km event held every Saturday morning and organised entirely by volunteers. The event welcomes people of all ages and abilities, creating an inclusive environment where participants can walk, jog or run at their own pace.

What started as a relatively small event has grown significantly, with 400–500 participants now taking part each week. The parkrun has become an important community activity, helping people improve their physical and mental wellbeing, build friendships and enjoy regular exercise. Many participants also attend after being encouraged or referred through health and wellbeing initiatives.

The grant funded nine traffic cones with retractable barrier toppers, which are used to create the finish funnel that participants enter as they complete the course. The existing equipment had been in use since the event first started and was no longer suitable for the growing number of runners.

The new equipment has provided a safer, more robust and more flexible finish area, helping volunteers manage the event effectively and ensuring participants continue to enjoy a positive experience each week.
