North Cumbria Search and Rescue

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £958 to North Cumbria Search and Rescue for high-visibility reflective vehicle markings for its new response van.

North Cumbria Search and Rescue provides an important search and rescue resource for communities across North Cumbria, supporting the emergency services with incidents including missing person searches, people in danger and flood rescue.

Alongside operational callouts, the volunteer team has a strong community outreach programme, providing safety advice to children and youth organisations and giving awareness talks and demonstrations to community groups across the area.

The team recently replaced Mobile 1, its main equipment-carrying response van. This vehicle plays a vital role in transporting the specialist equipment and resources needed when volunteers are called to an incident.

The 3R grant funded the new van's reflective Battenburg markings and high-visibility rear chevrons, helping ensure the vehicle is immediately identifiable as an emergency response asset.

These markings are much more than cosmetic. Search and rescue teams can find themselves working at the roadside, in poor weather, at night and in other challenging conditions, so making the vehicle as visible as possible is an important part of keeping volunteers and other road users safe.

The new markings mean Mobile 1 is now properly equipped to stand out when it matters most, ready to support the team on callouts and community work across North Cumbria.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
