Skerton Ward Allotment Association

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £1,000 to Skerton Ward Allotment Association towards the cost of a new storage unit.

Skerton Ward Allotment Association provides a welcoming and peaceful environment for a diverse range of people from the local community. Many members are retired and enjoy the opportunity to socialise, stay active and grow their own produce, while others work in demanding professions such as the NHS and Prison Service and value the allotment as a place to relax and unwind.

The site also supports wider community involvement. Local Scouts visit to learn about nature and food growing, nearby residents take part in environmental projects, and the association’s annual plant sale has become a popular event for local gardeners.

The grant contributed towards the purchase of a new storage unit, replacing an ageing container that had deteriorated significantly over the years. The old structure suffered from leaks, corrosion and structural issues, making it increasingly unsuitable for storing equipment and essential infrastructure.

The new unit provides secure, weatherproof storage for tools and equipment used by members free of charge, as well as housing the allotment’s security camera, Wi-Fi and battery charging systems. This investment has helped safeguard valuable resources and supports the continued development of this much-loved community space.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco). With a large number of grant applications coming in recently, continued support from the local community is more important than ever.

Every purchase in the shop helps raise the funds that go straight back out as grants to support local charities, clubs and community groups. If you are nearby, please call in and support the shop so we can continue helping even more organisations across our area.
