The Rainbow Centre

The 3R Foundation recently awarded £387 to The Rainbow Centre in Morecambe for upholstery materials and a cordless staple gun to help refurbish its reception area.

The Rainbow Centre has an incredible history of supporting older people in the local community. Founded by Albert Robert Penhale OBE in 1959 to help combat social isolation, the organisation purchased its current building in 1965 and the Centre was officially opened in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

Today, The Rainbow Centre continues to provide a welcoming place for people aged over 50 to meet, socialise and take part in a wide range of activities. The organisation is self-funded through memberships, activity fees, donations, fundraising and its onsite café.

As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Centre is giving its reception area a much-needed refresh. After many years of regular use, the seating had become worn and ready for refurbishment.

The 3R grant funded new upholstery materials and a cordless staple gun, allowing the team to give the existing seating a new lease of life rather than replacing it – a bit of Reuse and Rehome that definitely gets our approval at 3R!

The improvements will create a smarter and more welcoming entrance for the many members and visitors who use the Centre each week, as well as helping it look its best for this very special anniversary year.

The 3R Foundation funds grants like this through the Recycle, Reuse, Rehome charity shop in Carnforth (next to Tesco).
